So the idea is put to me that I should sell my disks 1 through 29 of the StarTrek: The Original Series when I get the Boxed Set on EBay. That means of course that I'd actually have to arrange for couriers to come pick the stuff up and take it away from me. Before they take it i'll have to wrap it all up. Sounds like a mission. I don't know.
I was instructed yesterday by my brothers wife that I really needed a comments system. So I went looking for one, only to find that, in BlogSpots upgrade, comments are now a built in feature! Yay!
It seems wrong to me that companies like McDonalds can pass off what they sell as "food". Sure, when you eat McDonalds it tastes good and fills your stomach, but I feel that Ive taken a step backwards. Ive become *less* nourished by the consumption rather than more. That it would have been healtier to eat nothing at all. I can't help but think that perhaps the quality of fast food would improve a lot if executives of fast food joints were forced to eat their own product for a month.
So I got my mother a box of choclates. I think they were sufficiently nice as she didnt seem inclined to share them. I am quite proud, plus not just a bit disturbed... the whole gift giving thing not being part of my normal mode. I mean - its a lucky year in my family if any of us remember any of the others birthdays. I for one am not fussed by this. I mean people forgettign my birthday. And I get quite confused when people take it badly that not only did I forget their birthday, but seriously dont even know when it is.
My sister seems a bit more conventional as these things go however - at least as far as people remembering her's go - but has learn't that the best way is not to gripe after the fact, but to hint heavilly before the fact that something expensive - from this list - would be well recieved.
The Spanish Grand Prix was held at Barcelona this weekend. Once again it was a depressing race. Not because Schumacher won again, but because all the overtaking of note didn't happen on track. Cars are on track in one order - theres a round of pitstops, and the race leader has changed.
I really dislike pit stops. I watch Racing to see drivers race. Wheel to wheel. At the moment Formula 1 has degenerated into some kind of World Rally championship where each car is essentially alone on the road - with a car 2 minutes ahead and a car 2 minutes behind - and you only know the order when the times are added up at the end of the race.
There were only two elements of excitement the entire day - and they both happened at the very start of the race. First, some nutcase got onto the track to promote his political message. Then there was the amazing start of Trulli in the Renault who rocketed from fourth to first.
On a funnier note - before the race - just to piss off some BMW fans - I predicted that Montoya wouldnt even finish this race. As it turned out, Montoya retired due to brake failure about 2 thirds into the race - knocking over one of his pitcrew because he couldn't stop. No injuries thankfully.
All I can say about Mclaren and Williams is W.T.F.???
Given that Formula 1 is for the motor manufacurers involved a marketing platform, I'd much rather own a Ferrari than anything that BMW or Mercedes have on offer. A Ferrari or a Renault. Not too sure about the Renault though - can't say I trust anything wearing french rubber.
Van Hellsing is a bit of an odd one. Having watched it. I can say with total certainty, its crap. And I highly recommend it. The story - such as it was - seemed to be some cut and paste job from every other frankenstein or vampire movie ever made, and it was not helped by the acting. However, the result was just cheesy enough, that coupled with the special effects, the end result was quite enjoyable.
Some time in the far distant past I started collecting Star Trek: The Original Series on DVD. Because Region 2 disks were (initially at least) not available my collection is 100% region 1 DVDs ordered from amazon.com. Now I got a few disks a month until I got about halfway through the original series' 40 odd DVDs and found that I could go no futher, the remaining DVDs wern't yet out. So for a while I forgot about it, and then more recently when I rememberd I was too lazy to put an Amazon order together.
Then today I see on Slashdot that the original series is being made avaialble later this year as a boxed set. In region 2. with special features. I am so hosed. My choices now are: Abandon my original collection halfway and get the boxed set. Or ignore the boxed set and complete the original collection.
Ironically, the boxed set will probably end up cheaper than buying the remaining 20 disks seperately, plus ill get all teh bonus commentary and other special features. In terms of money spent then, the outlay on the 20 odd DVDs I already have is now totally wasted.
