Indianapolis

I find it just slightly amusing that the Lucky Strike / Bar Honda logo is so reminicent of the Japanese flag - given of course the fact that Bar Honda have Takuma Sato the wannabe kamakazi pilot driving for them. Thankfully Sato actually put in a masterful drive at Indianapolis this weekenc to grab himself a podium.

What I really want to know however is why the damned stewards took so long to decide to disqualify Montoya. With 20 seconds to the start they realized his car wasn't going to (start) so he hops out, sprints to the pits, and into the spare car to start the race. Around lap 57 out of 86 odd, the stewards decide that Montoya violated some rule that says there must be no one on track in the 15 seconds before the warmup lap starts by some 1.2 seconds.

Yet more Formula 1 - Canada

In case you havnt guessed it, Formula 1 is going to feature a lot on this blog. It was all things told a rather tragic race. Sato blew his engine up - AGAIN. I think that makes it 4 out of 6 races so far this year. The Renaults - the only cars that really seemed to be able to give the Ferrari of Schumacher also died in the strangest ways. Leaving the suprisingly competative Williams to split the Ferraris and prevent a Ferrari one two. But wait - Sam Michael's first race as Technical Director / head honcho etc. ends up with both williams being disqualified for having illegal brake ducts. Along with the Toyota.

What I want to know is, how on earth is Sato blowing his engine up?

To summarise:

Michael Schumacher - happy he didnt have to fight the Renaults for first place.
Barichello - happy he got 2nd when the Williams in front of him got disqualified.
Button - Happy to get yet another podium on a plate.
Timo Glock - Happy to get 2 points on his F1 debut, replacing Pantano who (it seems) needs to move outa home and out from under his fathers wings.
Eddie Jordan - Happy to get 3 points on a platter when 4 cars in front of his men get disqualified putting his drivers into 7 and 8.

Sato - Unhappy to have yet-another-engine-blowup.
Ralf - Unhappy to loose 2nd place to a disqualification.
Sam Michael - Unhappy to have his cars disqualified on the very first race when hes "in charge".
Eddie.
Trulli - Unhappy for having his suspension fail - in a very odd way - on ONE of the few races when he expects to have a straight up chance to beat the Ferraris on merit.

Question: How much slack must we cut Gascoyne? His Toyotas still arnt going any faster, AND now hes gone and gotten them disqualified once! Sure he turned arount Renault last year, but how much of that was him we must now ask?

Yes - Ive comitted my online time to EVE. But now, all the online comics tease me with constant references to City of Hero's. Why does this game sound like so much damned fun.

Forumula 1 Qualifying

So we are staring down the barrel of *new* changes to the qualifying format. All with the intention of making qualifying more of a spectacle?

At some point however, Formulat 1 is going to have to ask itself why it is doing this thing called qualifying? Is it just a bulshit reason to make people watch one race spread over two days? Or is there actually some point to it?

On the face of it, qualifying does turn the entire "Race" into a farce. If qualifying works - if it does sort the drivers by how fast they can go, then, on sunday, there is no possibility for overtaking. The fastest driver on the course is already in position #1, the second fastest in grid slot #2, and the slowest driver of the lot is at the back.

All one can hope for is disaster on Sunday to mix up the order a little.
