Strangeness on the M4

So, driving around Durban in my MGF I pass on the M4 a flatbed truck with a single cardboard box strapped onto the back. A standard microwave oven sized cardboard box. All alone in the middle of the flatbed. It looked just a little odd having such a small box on the back of a big truck.

Then I passed another truck. Same exact brand. Also with a single box. And 3 more.

Curses I need to start travelling with a camera. Why on earth 5 brand new trucks - all the same brand and model - are needed to transport 5 small cardboard boxes is beyond me.

Strawberry Daiquiris

Tasty and delicious. Went to a department dinner to Ishaka. There must have been 12 or so of us, and Strawberry Daiquiris were the order of the day. We had lots. And a all you can eat buffet. Which unfortunately I could not abuse because friday is Cake day. And the cake today was rather delicious.

Off to the Gym.

Oh brother

So I finally spoke with my brother. He is in israel. Tel Aviv. Working in a club. As a bar tender or sweeper or something. Illegally I might add, his visa expired a while ago. Oh well.

He intends to go to Japan to do some shopping, I'm not sure how he intends to get through the airport without then deporting him straight back to ZA. I suppose if you have in your possession a ticket to go somewhere else the border control goons might be predisposed to let you go where you will and let you become the other countries problem.

I see dead people

There was a dead man lying on the ground outside the ABSA bank in broadway when I went to the dentist. He looked like a security guard from the bank but I can't be too sure - it was the other side of the road. My immediate thought was that there had been some crime and he'd been shot or stabbed or something, but the general lack of police indicates he might just have been hit by a car.

Im not too sure he was dead actually either, but, for the people gathered around him, they seemed quite content to just leave him in place and wait for the ambulance. When I got out the dentists a good 30 minutes later the ambulance was there, but in no great hurry to rush anywhere, so either they guy had recovered by that time, or was dead enough such that no quick trip to medical facilities was going to help.

Dentists

Im no great fan of dentists, but then I dont think anyone will claim to be. Unless they just had a really sore tooth removed perhaps. I mean, the dentist himself is probably a great guy, but Im not predisposed to like anyone who spends our only quality time together sticking needles in my gums, then spending ages grinding away with a variety of drills in my mouth.

What I really dont know however is how to deal with the Dentists assistant. Generally they are female, young and attractive. So you smile, and say hello, and realize that in a few moments shes going to be staring at the back of your throat wielding some sort of suction device that she will take great delight in getting too close to your cheek, which will then get sucked in and get stuck to the end of the probe till she yanks it out of your mouth.

I digress however from the core of this message: I just went for the 2nd visit to get a crown fitted and realized something - crownes are very nearly the greatest thing. The first visit involved much drilling which was not good, but the actual fitting was glorious. Every time the dentist needed to make an asjustment he took the damned thing out my mouth, and used his tools on it *over there*.

Somehow, we need to be born with detachable teeth. Then the dentist can do his thing with the drills and the polishers and pokey bits, and we can read a magazine till its time to refit them.

You are all going to die...

With these tosspots guarding your country. According to an AP News article the US Justice Department actually cannot query their database without causing it to crash and loose data.

Amazing.
